Section 80 of the Code of Civil Procedure (CPC) in India deals with the requirement for prior notice before instituting a suit against certain government authorities or officials. The section states that no suit shall be instituted against the government or a public officer in respect of any act purporting to be done by such officer in his official capacity, until the expiration of two months next after notice in writing has been delivered to, or left at the office of the authority or officer concerned. The notice must also contain a statement of the cause of action, the name and place of residence of the intended plaintiff, and the relief which he claims.
