A will is a legal document that sets out the instructions of an individual, known as the testator, regarding the distribution of their property and assets after their death. It is a written declaration of how a person wants his/her property to be distributed after their death.
The most important points of a will include:
- The testator must be of legal age and of sound mind at the time the will is made.
- The will must be in writing and signed by the testator in the presence of two or more witnesses.
- The will must clearly identify the testator and the beneficiaries, and describe the distribution of the testator's property and assets.
- The will must be executed with the formalities required by law in the country or state where the testator resides.
A will can be amended or revoked by the testator at any time while they are alive, as long as they are of sound mind and the amendment or revocation is made in writing and executed with the same formalities as the original will.
